Mazda Plans To Release A Mini Rival

Mazda may receive its own compact hatchback with a claim to the premium. As his potential competitors named Mini, Audi A1 and Citroen DS3, and their debut model in the next two to three years. The Japanese company intends to participate in the development of the popular segment.

Vice President for development at Mazda Europe Ichiro Hirose told Autocar that the company is interested in expanding the model range in the designated direction. In his opinion, the compact segment and emotional premium hatch has been developing quite rapidly - the latest example of this is the debut of the Opel Adam.

Meanwhile, details of the project were not disclosed. Last time Mazda was fixed their attention on the compact segment in 2008, demonstrating conceptual hatchback Kiyora. Nevertheless, a model that can appear in three years, most likely, will not be similar to this prototype.
