Volvo Is Going To Switch To Four Cylinder Engines

Volvo has announced the launch of a new family of four-cylinder engines of its own design. Volvo has already called it "an important step towards full independence": the new engines will replace the current five - and six-cylinder units.

In the future the total number of used Volvo engines has greatly reduced that the Swedes boon - this fact will greatly simplify the development of new models. In addition, the rejection of engines larger volume will help to provide additional fuel savings while increasing performance capacity.

Production of the engine family under the designation Volvo Environmental Architecture (EVA) began at the company's plant in the city of skövde. In modernization of production facilities Scandinavians have already invested over 100 million euros, and the preparation for the production run was carried out the last two years.

This year, the Scandinavians are going to produce up to 20 000 new engines coming to the end of the year 2 000 engines per week. Installation of new power units at the production model will begin in the fall, and will make their debut engines on Volvo S60, V60, XC60, V70 and S80. It is not excluded that the public premiere of a new family of engines will take place at the Frankfurt motor show.
