History of Ikarus

  

The first Ikarus, appeared on Soviet streets in the 60-ies, were models 55 and 66 Deluxe serving intercity and tourist lines. 66-Tom was the engine capacity of 125 HP (later versions - 145 HP). He was able to reach the speed of 100 km/h, which at the time was just fantastic. At this speed, streamlined, unusual for the then buses-boxes the shape and longitudinal moldings these buses are called "rockets". It was one of the most successful variants of Ikarus, produced in various versions for over twenty years.

The party of Ikarus-180 (so-called articulated model, or "accordion") began to arrive from Hungary in October 1968. They worked during rush hour, the lines connecting the center of Moscow with areas Tushino, Falcon, Shchukino; the main part of time they served in new neighborhoods. These buses compared with the Russian counterpart, the ZIL-158, got absolutely fantastic number of people: 180 people! So they then jokingly called "vacuum cleaners" - everyone will suck. They were red and white and in comparison with their descendants, was characterized by a small size of the Windows. For five years they arrived 327 cars that was 1/15 of the total number of all municipal buses. They pleased the passengers for their comfort, they liked to shoot in feature films of the early 70-ies. "Ikarus" was owned by the 1st, 6th, 10th, and 11 bus parks and buildings served Belyaevo, Khimki-Khovrino, Medvedkovo, Degunino. From all arrived in Buses to 1976, there was only 273 of the machine. Road parts. The last few models long "Ikarus-180" disappeared before the Moscow Olympics... But Hungarian buses were still more reliable and more convenient in operation and for passengers than many Soviet modifications - LiAZ-695, 697, 699 and 165 LAZ-699, 96 LAZ-N...

The construction of the Moscow metro has not kept pace with growth of the city and in 1976, after the holidays, arrived in Astana "in service" more perfect Hungarian model - Ikarus-280". Like all the other "hundredth" model, 280-I was the modular principle: like cubes of children's designer can be collected from unified nodes any modification. Want "280 - accordion" long, 16 meters and a half, and you want - long, 18-foot "accordion-283". For this idea to "Ikarus" not only gave the Golden diploma of the Leipzig trade fair (which is understandable - after all native CMEA), but even the silver Cup of the Prince of Monaco in the Eurovision body and silver Cup French Association for bodywork Studio.
